The invention relates to a process for producing a permanent way component, especially a large points component, with rail components like crossing nose and connector rails of materials of different composition. To provide a bond between the materials without any negative effects on their properties, it is proposed that the materials in the form of manganese high-tensile steel and carbon steel be joined together directly by electron beam welding or indirectly via an intermediate layer consisting of a nickel-based alloy.
