摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin substrate material for a liq. crystal display element which material is excellent in heat resistance and exhibits a small optical strain by subjecting a specific polycarbonate contg. a specified amt. of carbonate linking units having pendant arom. groups to injection-compression molding. SOLUTION: A dihydric phenol component contg. a compd. such as 1- phenyl-1,1-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, 4,4'-dihydroxytetraphenylmethane, or 9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluorene is reacted with phosgene to produce a polycarbonate which contains at least 5mol% carbonate linking units having pendant arom. groups based on all the carbonate linking units and has a glass transition point of 150 deg.C or higher and a mol.wt. of 10,000-20,000. The polycarbonate is thermally melted, charged into a cavity which is slightly open at the time of injection, and press molded by mold clamping to give a resin substrate material for a liq. display element.
