PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of the deflection of two similarly constituted fixing device rolls and a nonuniform nip width when these rolls are subjected to load forming the necessary nip. SOLUTION: A pair of the roller members 176, 182 of a fixing device for fixing toner images to various substrates respectively consist of elastomer layers deformable on the outer side. The one 176 of the roller members has such a nonuniform diameter that its center has the diameter larger than the diameter of its ends. The other 182 of the roller members has overhanging ends 180. The ends of the one 176 of the roller members have the substantially uniform nip profile and the size to generate the uniform nip speed at the time this roller member is moved by pressure engagement with the other 182 of the roller members. The ends 178 of the one 176 of the roller members have the thickness equal to the overhanging amt. on the other 182 of the roller members. |
