PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber which can be prevented from deterioration and the attenuation of a signal even when handled in an environment in which the optical fiber has a small radius of curvature, and is superior in handling at wiring and retrieval time, by arranging a reflecting layer around an optical transmission body made of a soft resin. SOLUTION: This optical fiber has the optical transmission bodyαmade of soft resin. The reflecting layerβis arranged around the optical transmission bodyα. There are polypropylene, polyethylene or an ethyl copolymer, polyvinyl chloride resin, polyester, polyvinylidene chloride, etc., as soft resin which can greatly increase drawing resistance. A buffer layer is provided at the periphery of an optical transmission material made of these resin, at need, and a coatingγis provided around it to obtain the optical fiber. The transmission efficiency of an optical fiber formed by using the soft resin for its optical transmission bodyαis inferior in a resin-based optical fiber using polymethyl metacylate or polycarbonate, but suitable for a use which requires transmission of up to only several tens of meters. |
