Original model for injection moulding tool production

A method of forming an original model, for producing moulding tools, involves (a) producing a 1:1 scale positive initial model of the end product (2); (b) preparing a negative mould from this initial model; (c) optionally producing a large positive model with the aid of the negative mould; (d) extending the negative mould or the positive model to compensate for the expected end product shrinkage by segmenting and recombining the segments with joint seams; (e) producing a large positive model with the aid of the negative mould if step (c) is omitted; and (f) finish machining the positive model surface to obtain the original model. The novelty is that the large positive model regions, which are to form the connection faces (7) of the end product (2), are thickened with extra material and are the only regions subjected to finish machining by superficial milling in accordance with preset values from manufacture of the object to which the end product is to be joined.
