PURPOSE:To increase battery capacity and prevent drop in capacity attendant on repeated charge/discharge and drop in performance by using alpha-manganese dioxide containing proton or lithium and manganese as the main component of cations as a positive active material. CONSTITUTION:By reacting an organic salt of manganese with a permanganate under an acidic condition, alpha-manganese dioxide containing proton and manganese as the main component of cations but containing no ammonium ion and no potassium ion is manufactured, or by heating an aqueous solution containing an inorganic salt of manganese under an acidic condition and blowing an oxygen-ozone mixture gas into the heated aqueous solution. By replacing the proton with lithium, the alpha-manganese dioxide is manufactured. By specifying Li/Mn molar ratio in 0<Li/Mn<=0.4, the performance of an active material for a lithium manganese secondary battery is further enhanced. |
