PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new substance having an excellent herbicidal activity and useful as a herbicide and a fungicide from the culture solution of a microorganism belonging to the genus Streptomyces. SOLUTION: This compound K93-5305 of the formula. The compound is obtained by culturing a fungus stain capable of producing the substance K93-5305, e.g. Streptomyces SP K93-5305 strain (FERM P-15252) in a culture medium to accumulate the substance K93-5305 in the culture medium and subsequently collecting the substance from the culture product. The substance K93-5305 has the following physicochemlcal properties. Nature: pale yellow powder; mol.wt.: 363.1237 (M+Na, high resolution high speed atom impact mass spectrometry); molecular formula: C20 H20 O5 ; melting point: 117-118 deg.C; specific rotation; [α]<21> D=-139 deg. (c=0.6, methanol; solubility: soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, dimethylsulfoxide, and ethyl acetate; slightly soluble in hexane; coloration reaction: positive to iodine; weakly acidic; etc. |
