Expandable styrene bead polymers (XPS) with low water absorption, obtd. by known methods of suspension polymerisation from styrene, opt. with olefinic comonomers, followed by working up, drying and coating the XPS beads. The coating consists of a mixt. of 10-95 wt.% glyceryl tristearate (GTS), 0-90 wt.% zinc stearate (ZnSt), 0-90 wt.% glyceryl monostearate (GMSR) and 5-50 wt.% (based on the wt. of the coating) of at least one hydrophobic silicate.
