A table assembly is described as a replacement for the work supporting table forming part of a conventional bench saw. It includes a slidable panel having a longitudinal slot from which protrudes the upper portion of saw blades operatively mounted to the base of the bench saw. The panel is equipped with an under frame which allows the panel to move in the longitudinal axis of the saw blades. With this arrangement, a work piece placed on the top surface of the panel moves together with the panel during a good part of the sawing operation so that the front as well as the back support lengths are correspondingly increased whenever required with no need for extra floor space. Also, the work is always subjected to identical friction forces on either side of the blades, whether the work is displaced with or on a supporting and movable surface, thus eliminating the need to secure the work piece to its supporting and movable panel prior to proceed with the cutting operation.
