PURPOSE: To obtain retransfer paper ensuring high retransferability of printed matter and giving an image having satisfactory image quality by using a porous resin in the surface layer of retransfer paper. CONSTITUTION: An image is printed on electrostatic recording paper with a color electrostatic plotter and the printed image is superposed on retransfer paper and retransferred to the paper by heating and pressing from the rear side of the printed image. At this time, the surface layer of the retransfer paper is made of a porous resin such as porous polyacrylate, polyacrylonitrile, polyacetal or polyester. The porous surface layer 3 is formed as follows; a substrate 2 is coated with a soln. prepd. by dissolving such a resin in a solvent, the coated substrate is passed through a liq. which dissolves the solvent but does not dissolve the resin to solidify the resin as well as to substitute the liq. for the solvent and then the substrate is dried. When the pore diameter of the porous resin is regulated to <=40μm, retransferability, an image and the adhesiveness of the surface layer to the substrate are improved.
