In a pen, for writing/painting/plotting/marking, a top-up zone (28) for a top-up vol. of ink is at the trailing side end of the ink store (16) and directly at it, defined at the sides by a shrouding side wall (30) with a vent opening (32) and an upper and lower closure (34). The side wall shrouding (30) is at a gap from the housing wall (42). The vent opening (32) is near the closure (34), to link the top-up zone (28) with the interior (14) of the housing. The top-up zone (28) can be accessed temporarily from outside the housing (12). A seal (38) is of a silicone rubber material.
