The component (1) is a composite of sheet metal parts of different thickness and/or material, which has at opposite edges zones of increased stress, e.g. hinges (3,4) and lock regions (2) of thicker and/or different material. The sheet metal parts, allocated to highly stressed zones, are combined with the remaining parts to a composite part (12,13), with all such parts coupled by a fitting seam (15), extending over the car body cover and above and below adjacent zones. The fitting seams (11,14,15) extend linearly in undeformed condition.
