The pressure medium cylinder has a seal element (11) to the piston sides with a round cross-section, and having a diameter (15) which is marginally greater than the width (16) of the longitudinal slot (8) to be sealed in the circumference of the housing. The seal element consists of an elastomeric circular cord. The side faces of the longitudinal slot to be sealed, together with the working bore (2) of the cylinder housing (1), form a sealing edge (17) for the seal to operate against it, this extends at least in the region to be sealed.
