A pack including a bag (13) and a belt (31) for releasably securing the pack around the torso of a person. The belt has first (39) and second (41) belt portions that extend from the bag at either side and terminate in free ends. A connecting device (45, 47) on each belt portion releasably connects the belt portions (39, 41) to secure the belt (31) around the wearer's torso. The connecting device (45) on the first belt portion (39) is movable along the length of the first belt portion (39) for adjustment when tightening the belt (31). The pack further has a rigid loop (61) attached to the pack adjacent to the first belt portion (39). When the connecting devices (45, 47) are interengaged, the free end of the first belt portion (39) is inserted through the loop (61) and pulled against the loop (61) to cinch the belt (31) tight.
