Film adhesive for bonding fluorocarbon resin to metal

An adhesive for bonding fluorohydrocarbon (FHC) resins to metal comprises a terpolymer (I) of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), perfluoro-(lower alkyl vinyl ether) (II) and a SO3H gp.-contg. perfluorovinyl ether of formula CF2=CFOCF2CF(CF3)O(CF2)2SO3H (III) or the corresp. alkali metal (M), ammonium or amine salt. Also claimed is a process for bonding an FHC resin substrate to a metal, by applying a film of terpolymer (I) between the FHC and the metal and hot-pressing the laminate obtd. Also claimed is a process for the prodn. of a film adhesive contg. the salt of (I), by making a film from a terpolymer of TFE, (II) and the corresp. halo cpd. of formula CF2-CFOCF2CF(CF3)O(CF2)2SO3X (with X = halo), and reacting this with MOH, ammonia or an amine. The corresp. film adhesive with X = H (i.e. terpolymer III) is then obtd. by reacting this polymer salt with an inorganic acid.
