PURPOSE:To reduce nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, and hydrocarbons into nitrogen by using an iridium catalyst having a specified structural formula and using hydrocarbon fuel oil such as kerosene and light oil as a reducing material. CONSTITUTION:Iridium is supported with a crystalline silicate carrier which is expressed by a general formula (1+ or -0.8)R2O.(a M2O3.bM'O.-cAl2O3).ySiO2 (where R is an alkali metal ion and/or hydrogen ion, M is an ion of group VIII element, a rare earth element, etc., and M' is an ion of alkaline earth metal such as Mg and Ca; a>=0.2>b>=0, a+c=1, 3000>y>11) and has a specified X-ray diffraction pattern to make a catalyst. Hydrocarbon fuel oil such as kerosene, light oil, and gasoline is used as a reducing material. |
