PURPOSE: To incinerate bulky refuse or liquid containing hydrocarbons effectively by introducing a gas which contains a specified quantity of oxygen into a combustion chamber and setting the ratios of mean Btu/hr rate with respect to the floor area of room and the volume of room, respectively, in specified ranges. CONSTITUTION: An incinerator 30 has a main combustion chamber 32, as a first stage zone of a combustion furnace including an inlet door 31, which is provided with an auxiliary burner 37, air jets 38, 39 for lower and upper fire, and the like. A second stage zone 46 is provided above the main combustion chamber 32 which is provided with a burner 49 and a fan 51. In order to combust refuse at a mean Btu rate, gas having a quantity of oxygen equal stoichiometrically to 90-110% is introduced into the main combustion chamber 32. The ratio of the mean Btu rate to the floor area of room is set in the range of 75,000-135,000 Btu/ft<2> .hr. Furthermore, the ratio of specified Btu/hr rate to the volume of room is set in the range of 7,000-15,000 Btu/ft<3> .hr. |
