Composite armour plate, comprising a metal layer and a composite layer, the composite layer comprising fibres and a polymer matrix, and the metal of the metal layer having a maximum hardness of 70 HB. The armour plate is low weight and affords good protection against ballistic impact. The preferred metals are aluminium or an aluminium alloy.
