Around the burning well (1), a high wall of earth (2) is made which, at its inner side, has a narrow crater-like opening (8) centered on the well. The extinguishing procedure takes place inside this opening. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method overcomes the many difficulties found in other methods used on burning wells in Kuwait. It is fully mechanised, does not entail personnel entering the direct danger area, and, after the fire is extinguished, allows oil to be drawn from the well. It is possible to extinguish the fire and seal the well in 2-3 weeks.
