A hybrid protein (I) regulating complement activation comprising portions from at least two proteins, at least one of the proteins being a protein (Ia) regulating complement activation chosen from CR1, Membrane Cofactor Protein, Decay Accelerating Factor, C4 binding protein, Factor H and CR2, is new. A hybrid protein (I) regulating complement activation comprising portions from at least two proteins, at least one of the proteins being a protein (Ia) regulating complement activation chosen from CR1, Membrane Cofactor Protein, Decay Accelerating Factor, C4 binding protein, Factor H and CR2, the portion of at least one (Ia) further comprising a full or partial amino acid sequence of at least one short consensus repeat (SCR) region, is new. An independent claim is also included for a pharmaceutical composition (II) for modulation of complement activity which comprises (I) with at least one excipient.
