<p>In a process for adding lead to molten steels, the lead is added together with rare earth metals as an alloy or sinter which may be introduced in the form of regular or irregular solid bodies or fragments in the pouring channel, ladle or ingot mould. The alloy or sinter may have the composition .rare earth metals.2-30% .Pb.70-98% Preferably the rare earth metals consist of a mischmetal obtained by electrolysis of the corresponding chlorides. The specification refers to the addition of an alloy of 80% Pb and 20% rare earth metals to a steel containing 0.075% C, 0.39% Mn, 0.20% Si, 0.014% P, 0.028% S to give a content of Pb in the steel of 0.23%.</p> |
