A peristaltic hose is made by chemically bonding a sleeve (15) of wrapped turns of fibrous mesh material (14)to an inner core (12) of polychloroprene type rubber. The mesh material (14) has one set of parallel fibrous runs (14a) extending longitudinally to the axis of the hose and a second set of parallel fibrous runs (14b) extending transversely to the axis. A minimum overlap between turns of the sleeve (15) and staggering of butt joints (13, 17) in the core (12) and outer layer (16) give a hose with little tendency to bow out of a linear disposition on pressurisation.
