发明名称 METHOD AND DEVICE FOR REINFORCING OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTION PART
摘要 PURPOSE:To reinforce a fusion-spliced part where glass is exposed as a result of heating and fusion splicing by connecting an optical fiber by fusion splicing and covering the fusion-spliced part with amorphous carbon. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber 19 to be coated is set in the slit 17a of a 2nd reflecting mirror 17 and the slit 18a of a parabolic mirror 18 and coated with a cover 20, and both end parts of the optical fiber 19 are led out of the cover 20. The inside of the cover 20 is substituted with inert gas and raw material glass is admitted from an intake pipe 22; while part of the gas in the cover 20 is discharged out of a discharge tube 23 and sent to a gas processor, a carbon dioxide laser oscillator 11 is put in operation to emit laser light 12, thereby heating the surface of the optical fiber 19. The raw material gas is decomposed thermally on the heated surface of the optical fiber 19 to deposit carbon and the optical fiber 19 is moved lengthwise to form a lengthwise carbon film on the peripheral surface of the optical fiber. Consequently, the strength of the fusion-spliced part is increased to eliminate a decrease in the mechanical strength nor an increase in transmission loss.
