PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for correcting a recognized character capable of reducing the load of the correcting operation of an operator, reducing a correcting time and reducing a processing time in the correction of a recognized result. SOLUTION: The recognized result displayed at a step S1 is investigated at a step S2 and when there is a rejected character or erroneous recognition, a corrected character is key-inputted. When a character which is set to be the object of key input at a step S3 is a rejected character, the step is shifted to S4 for correcting and inputting the rejected character, and when not so, the step is shifted to S9 for correcting and inputting the erroneously recognized character. At steps S4 to S6, the similarity of the rejected character being a correcting object and the other rejected characters is checked and a rejected character judged to be similar is replaced with a corrected input character to be corrected. Furthermore, at steps S9 to S11, the similarity of the feature value of an erroneously recognized character before correction, an erroneously recognized character before correction and a similarly recognized character is checked and a character judged to be similar is replaced with a corrected input character to be corrected.
