Filter element for gaseous and liq flows, comprising multiple filter cells formed of 'inflated', parallel, surface contacting, fabric pockets. The extent of contact between adjacent cell fabric surfaces is mutally dependent on each cell. To avoid partial overlap of filter surface, the cell wall sepn. prior to inflation in use, is constructed to be greater than the total elastic stretching of the cell walls under operational pressure. The outer transverse sections bridge the cell walls and work to maintain cell sepn. by restraining without causing kinking of the fabric; these sections are preferably integrally formed to provide a continuous transition. The basic filter cell element can be used individually or as multiples, in filter pockets, socks or cartridges. The filter fabric can be self supporting, chemically thermally, or pressure bonded non-woven material- preferably needle-bonded felt or fibre web. Pref also fabric laminated with microporous film or otherwise treated to give a siliconised, graphited, or PTFE finish. USE/ADVANTAGE - Dust filters. Filter cell with good in-use dimensional stability, retaining high surfacecapacity as high pressure difference, and able to be mfd from a range of filtration fabrics.
