PURPOSE:To eliminate the danger of exposure, etc., caused by X rays and to safely detect the inserted state of an inserting part of an endoscope by providing a magnetic field detecting means for detecting the inserted state of the endoscope by a magnetic field generated by a magnetic field generating means of the endoscope on the outside of a body to be examined. CONSTITUTION:An inserting part 12 of an endoscope 2 is inserted into a body- cavity of a patient 7, and in accordance with magnetic force of the endoscope inserting part 12 consisting of ferromagnetic material, density of a magnetic fluid 31 sealed in a magnetic field detecting means 9 provided on the outside of the body-cavity is varied. A variation of the density of this magnetic fluid 31 is photographed by a magnetic field observing means 10, and outputted to a control part 11. In this control part 11, a state of the magnetic field detecting means 9 photographed by the magnetic field observing means 10 is reflected on a monitor 6, and the inserted state of the endoscope 2 is detected.
