PURPOSE:To promote knocking control and power increase by making it perform such an operation as selecting a second ignition timing mode when a variation from reference ignition timing becomes more than the specified value, in a first ignition timing mode. CONSTITUTION:A first ignition timing mode to be taken when fuel is high-octane gasoline and a second ignition timing mode to be taken when it is regular gasoline are selected either and in time of controlling the ignition timing of an engine in accordance with the selected mode, a designated selecting operation releasing means is made to take the first ignition timing mode when a temperature change detected is more than the specified temperature change in that state that an ignition timing control mode setting means has selected the second ignition timing mode by means of the designated selection operation. Accordingly, it is shifted to a medium speed driving state form a state of being continuously driven at high speed and intake air temperature going up, and afterward this intake air temperature goes down by degrees. With the above constitution, knocking occurrence is effectively controllable and, what is more, power increase and improvement in fuel consumption or the like are well promoted. |
