PURPOSE:To precisely decide a grain pattern by processing a two-dimensional image obtained with the aid of photoelectrically scanning a reaction vessel having a bottom surface which is inclined toward the center based on the central position signal of the reaction vessel and detecting and deciding the grain pattern. CONSTITUTION:The well 2 of the reaction vessel having the bottom surface which is inclined toward the center of a microplate 1 moved in a right angle direction to a scanning direction is photoelectrically scanned by image sensors 3a - 3d which are controlled by a host processor 16. Then, the two-dimensional image is stored in an image memory 10 through amplifiers 7a - 7d, a switch 6, an A/D converter 9 or the like. When the stored content is read out and supplied by a high-speed processor 17, the host processor 16 forms the central position signal of a cell 2 based on the boundary of the cell 2 and the plate 1. Based on the signal, the plural grain patterns including the central part are detected from an image at the bottom part and it is decided at a high speed, precisely and automatically by comparing the respective patterns whether a grain is flocculated or not. Besides, the reinspection when the decision cannot be executed is quickly executed in a same way.
