[Also in Division F2] In a machine a plurality of bearing clamping devices are arranged to retain a shaft bearing in a housing 3 each device including a clamping plate 9 which is rotatable between retaining and release positions relative to said bearing; a clamp-operating member 10 in screw-threaded connection with said plate or with a screw-threaded member rigidly attached said plate, said clamp-operating member being rotatable from outside said housing to turn the plate to said retaining position and to secure the plate in that position; and stop means 18 to cause said plate to rotate with said clamp-operating members into said release position, when the latter member has been unscrewed a predetermined distance. In the construction shown each clamp operating member is a screw which in use is disposed through a bore in the housing 3 with its head abutting one surface of the housing 3 and with the clamping plate disposed on a screw threaded portion of its shank which extends beyond the surface of the housing 3. The clamping plate shown is substantially D-shaped with a threaded hole 15 for engagement by the screw and the stop means 18 is a deformed part of the screw threaded portion of the screw. In a modification however the stop means is a member disposed on the screw threaded portion of the screw. The clamping plate is provided with a lug 14 which by engaging a surface of the housing 3 limits rotation of the clamping plate beyond the retaining position. In a modification the clamping plate instead of being D-shaped is provided with two flanges, and a resilient ring of plastics material or rubber is disposed between the clamping plate and the surface of the housing 3 so that unwanted rotation of the clamping plate from the releasing position is prevented. In a further modification the clamping plate includes a stud 25 having a threaded end portion which is rigidly attached to a member similar to the clamping plate 9 and the means 10 is a nut. |
