PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient wear-resistance without applying hard chrome plating by manufacturing a piston ring comprising silicon, chrome, molybdenum, vanadium and the residual part or iron. CONSTITUTION:A piston ring comprising 0.6-0.85wt% of carbon, 0.2-1.0wt% of silicon, 17-18wt% of chrome, 0.8-1.5wt% of molybdenum, 0.05-0.15wt% of vanadium and the residual part which is substantially composed of iron is manufactured. Carbon forms a carbide to contribute to wear-resistance, and silicon improves heat-resisting property. Chrome forms a carbide to contribute to wear-resistance and scuffing property and molybdenum also forms a carbide to contribute to wear-resistance. Vanadium forms a carbide to improve wear- resistance and further gives resistance against tempering softening. |
