<p>A method is provided for producing a modified addition polymer from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer composition that includes at least one monomer having hydroxyl or carboxyl functionality. The ethylenically unsaturated monomer composition, and a free radical initiator therefor, is dissolved in a solvent-free molten composition maintained at an addition polymerization temperature, the molten composition comprising a cyclic compound reactive via ring-opening with the hydroxyl or carboxyl functionality. The resulting material is useful in the manufacture of paints in liquid or powder form.</p> |
