An apparatus for welding the tubular sections of sacks, bags or the like, which have a thermoplastic coating or thermoplastic film, has transporting belts and welding jaws. The apparatus comprises a drum, which has supporting surfaces which are distributed on its circumference and over which run the transporting belts, which clamp the tubular sections between them. In this case, the welding jaws are arranged alongside the transporting belts and are designed for pressing against the upper side and underside of the regions of the tubular sections projecting beyond the end edges of the bearing surfaces of the drum.
