PURPOSE:To stabilize operation of continuous casting by constituting surface layer of circumferential face of a roll contacting with the side dam with a hard material and forming the surface as the rough surface having grindability. CONSTITUTION:To one pair of cooling rolls 1a, 1b rotating mutually to reverse directions, the side dams 3a, 3b as vertically shiftable are arranged. In the whole thickness of each side dam, a part W1 at the inner part is made to set on the circumferential face of the roll and a part W2 at the outer part is formed by extending so as to slidingly contact with the side face of the rolls 1a, 1b. Then, in the roll circumferential face R, the part slidingly contacting with the bottom part faces 6, 6' of the side dam are formed with the hard metal layer and the surface layer is formed with the rough surface having grindability. As the sliding face of the cooling roll 1a, 1b is formed with the hard material composing the rough surface having grindability, the leakage of the molten metal is surely prevented and the operation of the continuous casting is stabilized. |
