PURPOSE:To improve the heat stability of a polyphenylene sulfide resin by incorporating a specified olefin copolymer therein. CONSTITUTION:60-99.5wt.% alpha-olefin (e.g. ethylene) is copolymerized with 0.5-40wt.% glycidyl ester of an alpha,beta-unsaturated acid represented by formula I (wherein R is H or lower alkyl) (e.g. glycidyl methacrylate) and, if necessary, other unsaturated monomers copolymerizable therewith to give an olefin copolymer (B). A polyphenylene sulfide resin (A) comprising a polymer containing at least 70mol%, preferably 90mol% or more, repeating units of formula II is mixed with 0.01-0.5wt.% component B and, if necessary, a fibrous and/or particulate reinforcement (C) in an amount of 300pts.wt. or less based on 100pts. wt. A+B. This mixture is melt compounded at 280-340 deg.C. |
