<p>Water-soluble textile finishing compositions comprise a uron resin and an etherified methylol melamine. 95 to 5 parts of uron resin and 5 to 95 parts of melamine resin are used per 100 parts of resin solids, by weight. The uron resins used must contain at least 30% of <FORM:0909663/IV(a)/1> where R is an alkyl group of at most 4 carbon atoms. The methylol melamines may be etherified with, for example, methanol, ethanol, ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol and propylene glycol. The aqueous solutions may contain curing agents, e.g. phosphoric, tartaric and oxalic acids, NH4Cl, diethanolamine hydrochloride, MgCl2, ZnCl2, Zn(NO3)2 and AlCl3; other synthetic resins, e.g. the reaction products of urea, ethylene urea, 1,2-propylene urea, 1,3-propylene urea, their thio-derivatives, and guanamine with formaldehyde which may be alkylated, acetone-formaldehyde resins, epoxy resins and addition polymers or copolymers; and other conventional additives, e.g. dicyandiamide. Examples of the compositions and their use and of the preparation of methylated uron resins are given.</p> |
