PURPOSE:To detect the trouble of a magnetic sensor or wiring at an early stage, by respectively providing rotary drums on a rotary shaft on a load side and a drive side and outputting an abnormal signal when one of the outputs of said drums is not changed but the other output is changed. CONSTITUTION:Rotary drums 2, 2' having magnetic bodies 3, 3' on which magnetic signals N-S are recorded are fixed to a rotary shaft 1 so as to provide an interval L therebetween and magnetic sensors 4, 4' each constituted of magnetoresistance effect element R are arranged so as to provide small intervals with respect to the drums 2, 2'. A plurality of signals are outputted from the sensors 4, 4' opposed to the drums 2, 2' fixed on the drive and load sides of the shaft 1. Since these outputs are changed correspond to the rotation of the drums 2, 2', the rotary positions of the drums 2, 2' are detected from the magnitudes of said output signals. By this method, the difference between both positions, that is, angular difference becomes a distortion angle to detect torque and, when only one output is not changed and the other output is changed, said out is judged as trouble.
