Method for fastening a bicycle (2) or a similar object to the load bearing implements of a vehicle, it being possible to connect the bicycle in an upright position to a bicycle support rod (4) which can be fastened to the load bearing implement and a frame fastening element (7) and other connecting elements, wheel holders etc. included in the fastening device being mounted on the bicycle support rod (4) which is separated from the load bearing implements. The bicycle (2) and the wheel holders are simultaneously brought together, the wheels (21, 22) and the wheel holders are connected to one another in pairs and the frame fastening element (7) is connected to the bicycle (2), after which process the bicycle (2) which is fastened to the support rod (4) is raised onto the load bearing implements and the support rod and the load bearing implements are clamped together by means of connecting elements.
