Glass panel has heating element in the form of a pattern of conductive enamel printed directly on to the glass and fixed thereto by subsequent baking at about 670 deg.C. The terminals are soldered directly to the enamel. The other face of the glass panel is coated with chromium (Cr), deposited under vacuum. Opt. the surface incorporating the heater is covered with siliconised film which in turn is coated with CR by vacuum deposition. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for construction of heated rear-view mirrors for vehicles, to eliminate use of independent supports for the heater and their subsequent bonding or lamination to a supporting mirror. If covered, the heating strip is protected from degradation by oxidn. or etching by airborne reagents or scratches.
