The cylindrical device for advertising purposes is characterised by the fact that it has an outer wall of transparent material in the shape of the lateral surface of a cylinder, which consists of a plurality of individual parts (4, 5), a plurality of segments of translucent material arranged one behind the other and at a distance from one another in the circumferential direction, the outer surfaces of which segments form parts of the lateral surface of a cylinder inside the outer wall (4, 5), illuminating devices which are arranged inside the outer surfaces of the segments (4, 5), and at least one continuous carrier film band (12) which is stretched around the segments (4, 5) and which can be moved in the circumferential direction of the cylinder. The device is also characterised by the fact that posters and other planar translucent advertising media (7) can be fitted to it. <IMAGE>
