PURPOSE:To prevent breakage of a connecting refractory and to restrain cold-shut depth of a cast billet by making corner part of the refractory the shape having relatively large gap and supporting the refractory by bringing the face into contact with end face of mold flange at outer periphery range of the flange part thereof. CONSTITUTION:The connecting refractory 11 is integrately formed with an inserting part 11a and the flange part 11b extending to outer part from the basic end part thereof and the inserting part 11a is inserted in the mold 12 under condition of having small gap (g) with the inner face 12a of the mold. The flange part 11b is brought this face at outer range 11d into contact with the end face of the mold flange part 12b and both are connected under this condition. Recessed corner part connecting the inserting part 11a and the flange part 11b, is shaped as arc-state pocket having radius R and relatively large gap G is shaped at between the projected intersecting part of both end faces of the inner face 12a and the flange part 12b of the mold and the recessed corner part of the refractory. Further, gap G' following the gap G ia shaped at between the inner range of the flange part 11b and the mold flange face 12b. This refractory does not cause concentration of the stress, and holds the strength and does not transfer heat so much and the cold shut depth does not become deep. |
