In a known device, when the rollers are pressed against one another a sag occurs on the fixed roller, and this sag influences the measurement and leads to measuring errors resulting in incorrect regulations and concomitant quality defects in the sliver supplied. In order to eliminate the influences of sagging, special measures involving a high outlay are necessary. In a new device, the sag occurring in the fixed roller is not to influence the measurement and, at the same time, good adjustability is to be provided. The sensing member (5) is arranged on the movable roller (3), and the sensing surface (8) is opposite one of the circumferential surfaces (9) of the fixed roller (2) and essentially outside the plane (12) containing the axes (10, 11) of the two rollers (2, 3).
