A device for lifting and lowering a submersible motor-driven pump. Starting from a lifting device with a load lifting member which can be moved up and down on a guide and is to be connected via a coupling device to a carrying part arranged on the submersible motor-driven pump, the object of the invention was to ensure the safe lowering and - above all - the safe lifting of such submersible motor-driven pumps which are arranged in a heavily contaminated pumping medium. To achieve the required safety, the solution according to the invention uses such elements which have proved reliable as load lifting members, such as load hooks and shackles. So that these elements can also be made suitable for coupling and uncoupling at a remote location which cannot be inspected, the invention provides for the load hook to be moved along two guide ropes, in the course of which the load hook acted upon by a counterweight in the direction of the unlatching position can be moved into the latching position by means of an actuating rope reaching to the upper level.
