PURPOSE:To form a porous fiber board having excellent mechanical strength, lightness in weight, high heat-insulation property, high sound insulation property and small water and moisture absorbability by a method in which a fiber sheet made of a slurry is pressed and heated in such a way as to bond the fibers of the sheet by lignin, etc., present in the wood and also to expand the capsule. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous slurry is prepared by adding capsules and a sizing agent, etc., to a vegetable fiber. The slurry is flowed onto a paper machine made of a porous carrier such as a metal netting, a felt, a nonwoven fabric, etc., by a flow coater, a spayer, etc., to form a sheet. The sheet so obtained is cut into an adequate size as needed and hot- or cold-pressed in such a way as to strengthen the entanglement of fibers and the bonding of the fibers with the sizing agent used and at the same time to soften and expand the capsules in the sheet by the increase in the vapor pressure of liquid inside the capsules. Uniformly closed cellular structures can thus be formed in the hard board as the product. |
