PURPOSE:To detect a pulse wave generated from an artery by selecting a center pulse wave among pulse wave signals outputted by plural pressure sensors. CONSTITUTION:Plural pressure sensors 44 are provided on the skin of a human body crossing the artery 50 so that at least three sensors are positioned right above the artery 50; and they are pressed against the body skin and then pres sure vibrations of the pulse wave generated by the artery are detected to output pulse wave signals corresponding to the pressure vibrations. Then, pulse wave signals right above the artery are selected among pulse wave signals SM outputted by the plural pressure sensors 44 is selected and a center pulse wave signal is selected among said selected pulse wave signals. Then, the pulse wave is detected according to the obtained center pulse wave signal. Consequently, not only the waveform of the pulse wave, but also a pulse wave very close to the actual pulse wave in the artery 50 as to a pressure value are obtained.
