PURPOSE:To restrict an occurrence of column vibration, make a small-sized combustion apparatus for hot water and reduce a noise of the apparatus by a method wherein a plurality of stages of hot water heat exchangers are arranged at a downstream side of a burner within a combustion chamber and a disturbance in distribution of pressure is generated in respect to a direction crossing across a flow of combustion gas. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of stages of heat exchangers 3 and 3' for hot water are arranged at a downstream side of a burner 2 within a combustion chamber 1 so as to constitute a spacing 4. The heat exchanging portions 3 and 3' have portions 3a, 3b, 3c...; 3'a, 3'b, 3'c... having different resistances against the flow of combustion gas in a direction of crossing flow. The portions 3a, 3b, 3c... of each of the stages 3, 3' corresponding to the direction of flow are arranged such that portions having high resistance and other portions having low resistances are corresponded to each other so as to make a mean sum of resistances. Since the different portions 3a, 3b, 3c... are arranged in a direction of crossing flow, a disturbance is generated in a distribution of the pressure in this direction. As a burner 2, an original mixing burner is applied and in case that a high density short flame 6 of planar shape is formed at the end part of the combustion chamber 1, an occurrence of the column vibration is restricted.
