PRODUCTION OF ALUMINUM ALLOY PARTS

PURPOSE:To ensure required characteristics and reliability of joining for composite lightweight Al alloy parts by hot extruding each composite preform consisting of a refined Al alloy billet as a core and a layer of rapidly cooled Al alloy powder formed around the core and by finishing the extruded product to a desired shape. CONSTITUTION:Each composite preform 1 is composed of a refined Al alloy billet 2 as a core and a layer 3 of rapidly cooled Al alloy powder formed around the core. The preform 1 is hot extruded in 10:1 extrusion ratio and the extruded product is finished to a desired shape of parts. The rapidly cooled Al alloy is required to have more excellent mechanical characteristics than the refined Al alloy and the finishing is desirably carried out by forging. The cross-sectional area of the billet 2 is preferably regulated to 25-90% of that of the preform 1.
