PURPOSE:To prevent a device from damaging by detecting an electromagnetic induction current flowing through a wire rod to be machined and detecting the breaking of a wire, and stopping automatically a manufacture line for a tapered rod which heats the wire rod to be machined by induction. CONSTITUTION:The wire rod 2 to be machined which is wound around a turntable 1 is sent out by a feed roller 4, and heated and softened by an induction heating device 5. A cooling device 6 cools the wire rod, which is drawn by a driving roller 7, heat-treated by a heat treating furnace 8, and taken up by a takeup machine 9, thus manufacturing the tapered rod. At this time, an induction current detector is provided behind the cooling device 6 to detect the electromagnetic induction current flowing through the wire rod 2 to be machined at all times, thereby detecting the breaking of the wire. When the breaking of the wire is detected, a stop command is sent to the feed roller 4, induction heating device 5, and drawing roller 7 immediately to stop them. Thus, the breaking of the wire is detected from the electromagnetic induction current to stop the manufacture line, so the equipment is prevented from damaging after the breaking of the wire.
