PURPOSE:To enable an optimum treatment to take by directly observing molten surface by photoconductor arranged at the corresponding part of meniscus, finding the molten surface level boundary line, calculating variation by change with the lapse of time and detecting the molten surface variation. CONSTITUTION:The photoconductor is arranged in a penetrated hole bored at the corresponding part of meniscus in the long side or short side and the molten surface is observed by this photo conductor, to find the molten surface level 15. The variation of molten surface level 15 is successively calculated, to detect the variation of molten surface. That is, the prescribed interval from an inner wall face 1a of mold or the distance (l) to the prescribed position is put in abscissa and the molten surface level 15 is shown as ordinate (h). The difference h of molten surface level 15a after unit time passes, is calculated from the molten surface level 15 shown by (h) at some time to the prescribed abscissa (setting position), to find the molten surface variation per unit time. In the molten surface variation calculating device, the condition of variation of molten surface near the meniscus is quantitatively detected. In this way, the condition of variation of molten surface during casting, is quantitatively detected by on-line, and the suitable treatment is taken in accordance with this. |
