PURPOSE:To obtain an anti-suntan cosmetic having excellent transparency and high ultraviolet-shielding effect, by compound a specific amount of titania sol containing a water-soluble polymeric compound and fine titania powder having a specific average particle diameter. CONSTITUTION:The objective anti-suntan cosmetic contains 0.1-10wt%, preferably 1-5wt% titania sol (in terms of TiO2) containing (A) fine titania particles having an average particle diameter of <=0.1mum, preferably 0.01-0.08mum and (B) a water-soluble polymeric compound, preferably polyvinyl alcohol. Since the fine titania particles are completely uniformly dispersed in the present cosmetic, suntan of the skin by ultraviolet radiation can be prevented. without giving a white or opaque feeling to the skin. Since titania sol is easily miscible or dispersible with a cosmetic base or other cosmetic component and gives sufficient ultraviolet-shielding effect at a smaller amount compared with conventional fine titania powder, the cosmetic has excellent transparency. |
