PURPOSE:To perform the next printing without considering the heat radiating cooling time of a heat generating ribbon, by allowing the heat generating ribbon to run in an inclined state with respect to a line head type printing head which is provided so as to cross the feed direction of thermal paper at a right angle. CONSTITUTION:A printing head 1 is constructed so as to cross the paper feed direction A of thermal paper 3 at a right angle and an endless heat generating ribbon 4 consisting of a conductive layer and a resistor layer is interposed between the printing head 1 and the thermal paper 3 and arranged so as to be inclined by an angle theta with respect to the printing head 1. When the printing of the first printing line is finished over the width of the thermal paper 3, the thermal paper 3 is allowed to run and move by one printing line in an A- direction, and the endless heat generating ribbon 4 is allowed to run and move by definite quantity in an oblique direction B to perform the printing of the second printing line. Since the endless heat generating ribbon 4 is not continuously heated at the same place, it becomes unnecessary to provide a heat radiating cooling time. By this method, a high speed printing becomes possible and the width of the heat generating ribbon can be reduced.
